Queermosa Awards

The 1st Queermosa Awards took place on Friday, October 28, 2016, kicking off the Taipei Pride Weekend. The event was attended by 500 guests comprising of celebrities, politicians, activists, corporations and artists of all types celebrating the achievements of LGBTQ individuals in art, music, politics, journalism, film, business, and many more. The 1st Queermosa Awards was also a launching pad for the marriage equality movement; the Awards took place less than two weeks after the unfortunate suicide of Professor Jacques Picoux, the tragedy that sparked a nationwide debate about the need for laws protecting same sex marriage. The public figures and the attendees alike used the Awards to bring focused awareness of this issue to the general public.

After the Queermosa Awards, Portico Media became one of the five founding members of the Marriage Equality Coalition and worked hand-in-hand to pass same sex marriage in Taiwan. During this period, the Queermosa Awards took a hiatus.
